The Church of God in Rochester Hosts a Cleanup in the Historic Susan B. Anthony Neighborhood

April showers bring May flowers. On a rainy day in April 40 members of the Churches of God in Rochester, Syracuse and Buffalo came together to clean the Susan B. Anthony neighborhood. However, the weather didn’t get in the way of their eagerness to help the community. They brought their rain-proof ponchos, green vests, and masks to tackle the task. The volunteers rolled up their sleeves with a determination to make a difference in the environment.

The Church of God partnered with the City of Rochester Southwest Quadrant Neighborhood Services. The task: cleaning up litter and getting rid of anything that didn’t belong in the streets and park.

Volunteers Help Transform the Susan B. Anthony Neighborhood

Upon arrival, volunteers quickly dispersed and got started. They picked up glass bottles, plastic, old TVs, and debris along the roads. They even found abandoned tires along the street. Andrea and her son, local residents, also joined the volunteers.

“The Church of God volunteers were all great, very friendly, very loving. Everyone was very nice to my son,” Andrea, Site Manager at Store Space Self Storage said. “The volunteers did a great wonder of helping clean the back lot of my workplace that was filled with so much trash.”

The Church of God has done more than 6,000 environmental cleanups worldwide. Over the years, Church members have worked to restore the Rochester community. James H. Demps III, Southwest Quadrant Neighborhood Administrator issued a certificate of appreciation to the volunteers for their dedication to the community.

A Positive Turnout

In the end, the volunteers collected more than 900 pounds of trash. “We’re always so excited to roll up our sleeves and help serve our communities no matter the weather conditions,” said Ryan, a Church of God volunteer. “I’m happy to see the results from the cleanup today and I hope this cheers up the community of Rochester.”

The Church of God will continue to shine the light of a Mother’s love in Western, NY. Volunteers aim to improve the environment and serve their neighbors with the love of Christ.
