The Church of God in the Bronx, NY hosted its first K-Food Festival on Sunday, February 4, 2024. The event attracted over one hundred guests who enjoyed various aspects of Korean culture such as food, games, and performances. In attendance was a New York State Assembly representative, who presented a citation from Assemblyman Nader J. Sayegh to the Church of God volunteer group ASEZ WAO for their continuous service to the Bronx community.
A Taste of Korea’s Culture and Traditions
Korea has recently captured global attention, fascinating people worldwide with its rich culture, unique cuisine, and captivating music. To give guests the chance to experience a taste of Korea, the festival featured authentic dishes such as Korean fried rice, Kimbap, Korean fried chicken, Ramen, Bulgogi, Bibimbap, and more.
The activities extended beyond food, with traditional Korean games like Tuho, Gonggi, and Dalgona, the latter gaining popularity from the hit show “Squid Games.” Attendees also enjoyed two performances, a dynamic drumming set and Taekwondo demonstrations by church members. They also had the chance to wear traditional Korean attire and have their picture taken against a scenic Korean backdrop.
A station was set up for families to learn how to write their names in Hangul, the native Korean alphabet, on flags, for an educational experience for both children and parents. The laughter and warm atmosphere captured the true essence of Korean culture: unity within the community.
Exploring Korea’s Biblical Significance
The remarkable and simultaneous growth of South Korea and the Church of God, from humble beginnings to achieving an international presence, stands as a testament to the miracles and prophecies of God. Guests left the event with more understanding of Korea’s significant role in Bible prophecy and a curiosity to learn more. Looking ahead, the Church of God in the Bronx hopes to make the K-Food Festival an annual tradition to bring the community together.
