On June 23, 2024, a group of 70 university student volunteers gathered to support the ASEZ Blue Carbon (ABC) campaign to raise awareness about purifying blue carbon ecosystems. Held in honor of World Ocean Day, the clean-up saw participants from various colleges in New York, including Westchester Community College, Baruch College, Mercy College, Monroe College, Bronx Community College, and Lehman College. Their efforts resulted in the removal of 43 bags of trash plus debris that was along the coastal line.
Assemblyman Awards ASEZ for the Blue Carbon Campaign
Assemblyman Kenny Burgos joined the volunteers and presented a citation recognizing the ABC campaign’s impact. He also honored the 60th anniversary of the Church of God and its commitment to environmental protection and community service.
Assemblyman Burgos expressed, “This is my first-time hearing about ASEZ but let me tell you I am completely impressed and blown away. I mean, in the organization, you can see how they have so many volunteers here and how they organized this clean-up effort. They’ve been doing this stuff for some years now, and I can tell when an organization has their stuff together, and I can tell ASEZ is doing it right.”
The success of this clean-up shows how much we can achieve when we work together. The ASEZ Blue Carbon campaign proves that each of us has a role in protecting our environment.
